The Economic Summit at its core is a conference centered around current economic issues in hope of enriching the participants with view from experts through panel discussions.
The focus of the Summit this year is on the uncertainties surrounding the global economies with changing leadership as well as restructuring of economies to embrace the future. Hence, the theme “The New Frontier” was adopted which embodies the fact that the world economy is largely venturing into uncharted territory.
The story began with the refugee crisis and rise in populism across the EU that led to the Brexit referendum in June last year. Over in the US, then Presidential Candidate Donald Trump was gaining traction during his campaign, resulting in his victory. For the Singapore economy, technological disruptions have triggered yet another economic restructuring that has shrouded the workforce in skills shortage limbo.
